a little known google feature...
I was surprised and excited about a Google feature I only discovered today. While looking for the AWOL Google video (hoping to see the Bill Gates / Napoleon Dynamite video I ran across Google SMS.
In a nutshell, Google SMS is a way to send an SMS message (text messaging on most mobile phones) to Google to receive directions, movie times, and other information (the Google SMS site highlights the types of searches and the syntax used to get the desired results).
After retrieving some directions and movie times, I would recommend that everyone add, Google SMS to their mobile phones.

Not to be too dumb here, Rob, but what does "SMS" stand for? And what is the cost to use it (if any)?
Thanks for passing on actually useful "techie" stuff to the masses (i.e., me):)
Blessings.
SMS stands for (Short Message Service) A text message service that enables short messages of generally no more than 140-160 characters in length to be sent and transmitted from a cellphone. SMS was introduced in the GSM system and later supported by all other digital-based mobile communications systems. Unlike paging, but similar to e-mail, short messages are stored and forwarded at SMS centers, which means you can retrieve your messages later if you are not immediately available to receive them. SMS messages travel to the cellphone over the system's control channel, which is separate and apart from the voice channel. See IS-41 and texting.
But we can simply call it that darn text messaging that kids talk, or more likely type, so much about these days...
Pricing ranges based on provider to 25 cents a per message to 50 messages for 2.99 to unlimited for 5 dollars a month. So you will need to check with you mobile company and see what rate plan works for you.
